Dysport/Botox are brand names of neuromodulators consisting of botulinum toxin. It can be used cosmetically to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It can also be used therapeutically to treat chronic headaches, migraines, jaw clenching, teeth grinding, and excessive sweating.
Botox works by reducing the signal between the nerves and muscles, causing the muscle to relax. For fine lines and wrinkles, this prevents the facial muscles from creating and deepening the creases in the skin. For therapeutic injections, this reduces the muscle contractions that may be the cause of the pain, providing relief.
The Botox is administered via a very fine needle. There is little to no pain and there is no downtime required after treatment.
