What We Treat with Dysport and Botox

Neuromodulators are versatile treatments for both cosmetic and therapeutic concerns. Dr. Barazandeh and our team will tailor your treatment to your specific goals.

  • Cosmetic: Forehead lines, frown lines (glabellar), crow's feet, bunny lines, brow lift, lip flip
  • Therapeutic: Chronic migraines, TMJ/jaw clenching, teeth grinding, excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis)
  • Facial asymmetry correction

Many patients combine Dysport with dermal fillers for full-face rejuvenation, or pair it with a thread lift to address volume and laxity together.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dysport/Botox

How long do Botox injections last?

Results typically last 3 to 4 months for cosmetic treatments. Therapeutic treatments for migraines, TMJ, or hyperhidrosis may last 3 to 6 months or longer. Regular treatments help maintain consistent results, and many patients find they need fewer units over time as the muscles gradually weaken.

What is the difference between Botox and Dysport?

Both are botulinum toxin neuromodulators that work the same way. Dysport tends to spread slightly more, making it well suited for larger areas like the forehead. Botox is more precise for smaller areas. During your consultation, we will recommend which product is best for your treatment plan.

Can Botox be dissolved if I do not like the results?

Unlike dermal fillers, Botox cannot be dissolved. However, the effects are temporary and will naturally wear off within 3 to 4 months. If you feel your results are uneven, we can sometimes adjust with a small touch-up at your follow-up appointment.

What are the risks?

Common side effects include mild bruising, swelling, and redness at the injection site, which resolve within a few days. Rare side effects can include headaches, temporary drooping of an eyelid, or localized muscle weakness. Our team is extensively trained to minimize these risks through precise injection technique.

Is Botox covered by Alberta Health?

Cosmetic Botox is not covered. However, therapeutic treatments for conditions like chronic migraines, TMJ, and hyperhidrosis may be covered under certain circumstances. We recommend checking with your healthcare provider and insurance to understand your specific coverage.
